hello! Network

Wordpress 2.7 Beta 2 Available

You can now download Wordpress 2.7 beta 2. Here are just some fixes, visit the site to find more. You can also update your beta 1 via tools -> update as well. But it might not work so be prepared to download it manually.

* The Upload button didn’t always show. Fixed.
* JS on the Dashboard broke for blogs with no comments, causing several UI elements to “freeze”. Fixed.
* Recent Drafts Dashboard module didn’t show correct times. Fixed.
* Various Autosave fixes.

Wordpress 2.7 Beta 1 available

For those of you who have been looking forward to trying out the latest and greatest in Wordpress, 2.7 beta 1 has been released for everyone to download. Remember that it is beta, so you will not want to use this on a live production site. (Unless you are daring like me)

I have not tried this out just yet, and I am looking forward to seeing the vast changes in the visual design.

Wordpress 2.5.1 Released

This release of Wordpress is set to squash out the bugs that have been annoying some people, and also is a security fix related to open registration that has not been made public yet. If you’re using 2.5, you’re urged to update. There are apparently over 70 other fixes in this update as well. Including fixing the flash media uploader for IE 7. Unfortunately for myself, it doesn’t fix the issue I’m having, which is most likely because of all the stupid stuff I’ve installed since I moved to wordpress in the recent past.

I tell you, upgrading and upgrading your installs of any software will eventually make it do things you’ve never thought would happen. I’m about this close to converting my personal blog back to ExpressionEngine. But no, I won’t do that. Yet.

Pop-up comments

I’ve been throwing around the idea of having pop up comments on this blog. I’d just like to get a poll going on which you prefer. Pop-up comments or non-pop-up comments which basically go to a separate page to do comments. I’d love to hear any feedback on this because it’s been one of those things that have been bothering me.

While on one hand I really hate pop ups, there are reasons why pop-up comments could be a good thing. The biggest reason is pretty obvious for Expression Engine users, mainly because you don’t have to have a separate page for comments as a permalink. It gets kinda annoying when you have 2 pages that are essentially permalinks, and yet only one has comments on it. The popup comments would always be on every permalink page, which would essentially become one page now instead of two.

The disadvantage of course, is with a popup comment window, when people reply to a comment and they get the email notification, the comment page they are going to becomes the popup comment. This can get really annoying. But there are ways around this, to direct the person to the permalink page instead of the comment page.

So please, take a vote, let me know what you think!

Pop Up comments or no pop up comments?

Expression Engine 1.6.3 Released

For those of you who didn’t already know, ExpressioneEngine 1.6.3 and Forums 2.1.0 have been released. These are maintenance releases, and fixes a bunch of bugs. There are no new features. But it’s highly recommended by the EE team to go ahead and keep up to date to minimize the headaches you have when ExpressionEngine 2.0 comes out. Well, they might not have put it in exactly that wording.

ExpressionEngine 1.6.3 is codenamed El Llama. How can you not love a company with a sense of humour?

Wordpress 2.5 RC1

Ok, so I’ve downloaded, installed and tested Wordpress 2.5 RC1. I’m happy to announce that all my entries work just fine. The import process went great. It even asked me if I’d like to upload any images that were uploaded in my prior install. I didn’t see this in prior installs, so I’m guessing this is relatively new. Here’s a list of likes and dislikes (which I have already sent in to the 2.5 feedback email):

Things I don’t like :

1. too much wasted space at top. If there was only one line of stuff, that would work great. but there’s a lot of wasted space there. don’t like that. I would suggest that the name of the site show up next to “dashboard” or something similar to that and the visit site could go next to that. that would save so much more space.
2. on the write page. the categories are at the bottom. I’m likely to forget to choose a category and get pissed about it. I like in the 2.33 how you can move the items around. you can’t do that anymore. I don’t like that. I’d almost like to see the categories on the right under the post buttons.
3. Still no way to do sticky posts! This is really needed!

Things I like:

1. The menu options is just about right. i like that. “unimportant” items (settings/plugins) or items I don’t use everyday are small and set aside.
2. I like the “most used” clicking option on categories. neat.
3. i like the way tags are done. it looks like it still uses a bit of space though. but that’s ok.

Other than that, so far so good. I’d almost say that it’s ready to put out to the wild. I’m guessing and hoping that this is the kind of feedback they want.

Plugins that didn’t work for me?

Things are changing

Things are going to be changing around here. Not sure if they’re all good, but if you visit this site and there is some kind of funkiness, you’ve been warned.

I’m trying to make some changes and they might impact the site a bit. Of course, preparing for EE 2.0 too. We’ll see how things go.

ExpressionEngine 2.0 Preview

If you are like me, and missed going to SXSW, there is now a screencast of the ExpressionEngine 2.0 Preview.

It looks exciting, except I’m not entirely sure on the look of the control panel. But they say it’s completely changeable via themes, so I’m not really worried about that.

Getting ready for Wordpress 2.5

So, Wordpress 2.5 is coming out on March 17th. It was a bit delayed from the March 10 mark, but I figured that’s ok, because honestly, if you get more time to work out the bugs and issues, the better. But there are still issues with the back-end.

With the change in the administration panel, many plug-ins will most likely break. I realize now that a lot of people have updated their plug-ins, but not all plug-ins would be covered of course. If you’ve been keeping up with your plug-ins, you may or may not have any problems.

On the Wordpress Development Updates page you’ll note that the administration panel does have selectable color schemes. I’ve been waitin for something like this, although you are able to customize the back end pretty easily. The idea that you can pick whichever suits your mood is a bonus to me.

You might consider waiting to update your installation of Wordpress still. Just make sure your plugins are up to date and support the new administration panel. I think that’s just about the biggest issue. There are minimal things to worry about with the theme design, the biggest thing being able to use gravatars natively without a separate plugin. Get ready to upgrade!

ExpressionEngine 2.0 preview highlights

Ok, since I’m not actually at the SXSW, I don’t get to actually see all the cool things they might have. But a few people have been kind enough to post about some of the things they’ve learned from the previews. First of all, allow me to link you to the EE 2.0 preview photos at David Russells flickr stream. As you can see, they’ve changed the layout of the CP. It looks good! Reminds me a bit of WP 2.5 and Blogger (it’s the orange), but I can live with it.

Some highlights:

1. EE 2.0 will be based on Code Igniter. What this means is that the structure will change. But they’re promising backward compatibility. This is good!
2. jQuery - this should speed things up! We all know that speed and ease of use is their goals for the CP. This will indeed be cool.

I seriously hope they release and make available the developer edition so we can pretty up our plugins and modules. Not that I think there will be a need for the linklist in 2.0. I’m sure they’ve made something better for it!

More to come as I find things out.

UPDATED: Derek has released some Official EE 2.0 screenshots! You should check them out. Now! What are you still doing here?

EllisLab T-Shirts at SXSW 2008

If you’re going to SXSW this year, I envy you. You’ll get to see the ExpressionEngine 2.0 preview (should you attend the Ellislab booth) and get some nice free Ellislab T-shirts! I’m particularly looking at the codeigniter and exp:developer shirts. Of course, I’m a junkie for T-shirts, so I’d take them all if I could.

Leslie is apparently going to be blogging tidbits on what’s upcoming at the SXSW presentation, so be sure to tune into the ExpressionEngine Blog!

Site issues

As some of you may know, I inadvertently started playing with the Multi Site Manager and accidentally deleted the old hello! blogger information. At the very least I was able to restore some of the old entries, however, most of the new entries are now long gone. It’s ok, it gives me the excuse of having to get this site up and rolling and in better shape.

That which does not kill me makes me stronger!

You also might realize that Ellis Lab will be at SXSW this year. If you’re in area, you should definitely check it out, it sounds like it’s going to be a blast. You might also wanna make sure you RSVP!

Updates .. and possibly more

I just about feel like I've abandoned this site. I haven't been doing much for programming, and my personal blog is elsewhere, so I've been pretty much not been able to talk about much here because of that. (although Danalyn has made some updates to her Title Images Module, you might want to check that out.)

Therefore, I think this calls for a change of format for this site. I'm considering making this a programming blog site for anything that I might create. I think I'll keep the name though, because this site will still primarily be about Expression Engine. But in general, it will be about boring, nerdy programming stuff.

You may also notice that I've put a donations button on the front page. That's all I'll say about that. :)

If you want to read about my mis-adventures, however, feel free to come to my personal site, hello! yoshi.

New EE Module : Title Images

Danalyn at Shitty Code has finally released her Title Images Module. To view an example of the module, aside from visiting her site, go no further! I'm using it right here to display the entry titles.

This module is completely customizable, and very easy to set up. Installing is a breeze, as all it requires is knowledge of your website's paths, and where to put the dynamically generated images. It's worth noting that the images are also cached. This should speed up displaying of the images, instead of creating them on the fly.

If you've been working with any other type of method, and got tired of it, you should probably check out this module. Usage is quite simple:

{exp:titleimg}{title}{/exp:titleimg}

That's it!

Ok I lied

So I lied when this site was no longer maintained. I should have said that I've been too busy to post to this site. That's what I really meant.

Just for the record, I won't be releasing new versions of any plugin or module I've written, but as new versions of Expression Engine come out, I will try to make sure they at least work.

So there you go, from the horses mouth, if I said anything dissimilar to you before, please disregard whatever I said.

On that note, I've actually made a new plugin, but I probably won't release it just yet, since only one person really wanted it. :)

However, I am alive, and doing well!

Expression Engine 1.5 Released

For those of you who didn't know, Expression Engine 1.5 has been released. If you're running the Linklist module, this should be a seamless update, I encountered no problems with the new version.

Some features I'll highlight for you that are pretty nice:

- New Simple Commerce Module. I know plenty of folks have been totally waiting for this. You can now interface directly with paypal. It's pretty exciting!

- Template Preferences Manager. This is definitely a great feature. Now you can mass change options for your templates, even if they're in different template groups!

- HTTP Authentication to templates. This is pretty cool. Just remember though that passwords are passed through in clear text using this method unless you're using a secure connection!

There are plenty more changes and fixes in this version, just check out all the changes at the Change Log.

Linklist Module Update

Ok, due to a crazy issue with counting the number of links in a linklist, combined with upgrading your PHP, an issue has cropped up. You may get this error:

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home/****/modules/linklist/mod.linklist.php on line 76

Please re-download the latest linklist module ZIP and replace your mod.linklist.php file. You may not be experiencing this problem, but should still replace the file to prevent future problems.

Here’s a test of crossposting to Vox

Ok, so Daniel said it would be awesome if there was a way to crosspost into Vox. Wordpress does it right?

Well, fortunately for Daniel, I'm always up for something new. So this post is an official test post to test out my Vox extension.

If you see this post, you should also be able to see it as a crosspost over at my Vox page.

My First Extension

Ok, as an exercise in extensions, I've made my first extension, and it's not bad I think. It's an extension that updates a mailing list(s) when you post or update and entry.

Obviously there are some bugs that need to get ironed out. Does anyone care to beta test this extension? Please let me know!

Blogathon 2006 - Change in charity (crosspost)

This is a crosspost from my personal blog at hello! yoshi

For those of you who have donated, thank you very much! Every penny counts, and no donation is too small. I've decided to change the charity I'll be doing the blogathon for. Just this past week, we received horrific news of an accident involving a very very dear friend. She lost her life that day, and in memory of her, I will be blogging the blogathon in her name for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Our friend was a true figher and passionate for finding a cure. So, the entire time I'm blogging for 24 hours, I'll be blogging for her. I don't wish to disclose any detailed information until the memorial website is created and completed, and more information is given out to the press (if needed).

I only ask that you consider becoming my sponsor to help those that can still be saved.

Please take this moment in time for silent thoughts and prayers for her.

To become my sponsor, or for more details about becoming my sponsor, visit my personal blog

Blogathon 2006

This is a crosspost from my personal blog at hello! yoshi.

I've decided to partake in the Blogathon 2006. For those of you who are new to blogathon, basically, for 24 hours, every half hour, I'll be blogging about something. Why am I insanely blogging for 24 hours, with no sleep in site? I'm blogging for charity, and for my sponsors (that'll be you).

[UPDATE NOTE] Since I changed my sponsor, my account is on hold for 24 hours, so if you're trying to make a donation, please wait till tomorrow, it should be back up and fine! Thank you!
This is the first year I'll be blogging for blogathon, so I'm an amateur at 24 hour blogging. My charity for this year will be The American Cancer Society. If you see something else on the blogathon page, please note, I'm in process of changing it, so it might be wrong.

My goal is to raise $100. It looks like we're at the $10 mark! I will update this page for every donation that is given, so everyone can know just how close we are to the goal. Since this is my first blogathon, i thought I'd start low. If you would be interested in sponsoring me, then click on the blogathon image on the right menu. Thank you for your donations!

For more details, you can visit my personal site, hello! yoshi.

What’s been going on lately

As I'm sure you're aware, this site has been pretty quiet lately. Unfortunately, I've not been working too much on the linklist as of late, since there are other projects that keep popping up constantly. (as well as just too many interesting other things.) Anyways, this is just a reminder that not all is lost, I have not forgot about linklist, I've just been trying to gather a lot together and go over a lot of changes to EE. It's been fun!
On another note, I've decided to take my "blog" from myspace and move it all over to hello! yoshi. That'll be my new "fun" site as I will probably do ridiculous and crazy things there as I cannot here on this blog. (we're all serious at pd-x eeblog.)

I'm aware of the many feature requests for the next version of linklist and hope to implement most, if not all of them. I'm just contemplating on whether or not I want to rewrite the entire module or just wait for EE 2.0. Still on the fence about that.

I do however want to rewrite the documentation so it is a bit more "official" meaning it will look more along the lines of the normal Expression Engine documentation. In essence, the documentation within the CP will become more of a quick reference, much like the quick reference guide for Expression Engine now. I've also contemplated context sensitive help, however that is looking to be much further along than the next version. :) Call that one a work in progress.

Server Move

There may have been some serious wackiness going on, as I have moved this site to a different server. Just some preparations going on for something big I'm preparing to do. No, this doesn't concern Linklist. However, I plan on working a few things out with Linklist soon, and releasing a new version. Exciting stuff!

Are you using linklist?

I'd like to put together a linklist of (what else?) sites that are presently using linklist as their link manager/blogroll. If you're using linklist as such, please let me know! Also, if you're using the linklist in a "special" or different than normal way besides a blogroll, that would be great to hear from you as well! I know there were a few folks who have been using linklist for so many different things, and i'd love to hear from you!
You can get in touch with me via the normal channels, leave a comment, send me an email, or leave a message on the forums, whatever you'd like. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you!

Linklist losing interest?

I'm not really sure nowadays if the linklist module is something that I really need to maintain. I keep seeing people move away from it, for bigger and better things. It could very well be for better folksonomy, which seems to be one big reason, and yet another is just the vastness of places like bloglines or del.ico.us. I think perhaps the biggest factor with waning interest to linklist (to me) is the lack of community involvement with the module.
Of course, I could just be high, and not realize that there are lot of people who actually use and rely on linklist and are waiting for the vast number of improvements it needs. Which is probably the case. :)

Of course, inevitably, I come to the great wall called "TIME" and I cannot do much about that. The linklist at best was a side project of mine that grew into this monster of a module. It's still a side project, and I keep wanting to improve it, however, time seems to run away and I just never have enough. I need more hours in a day, it's as simple as that.

Since there haven't really been too many feature requests to linklist, I just assume two things: 1) it's working satisfactory, and has all the features a user could ever want! or 2) no one has any suggestions, because they don't expect it to do anything more. I'm sure that neither is true, however, there are times when that's what i'm thinking. I know there is room for improvement. I know there are things in there that you wish you had, but you never say.

You really need to start telling me what you need in the module.

I know a lot of the stuff is already on the TODO list. I think that there is always room for a "i second that feature request" and a "wow, i wish this had that too." because comments like those escalate a TODO item or Feature Request into the next priority "HIGH" to be completed.

Overall, I guess feedback about the module would be great. I would love to see remarks such as "dude, your module sucks because..." Of course, it does have to follow with an explanation, as that is the best part of knowing what really sucks about something. If something is not working like you thought, how much you wanna bet at least one other person thought the same thing? So you voice your opinion, and that other person comes out of their shell and says "yeah...i totally agree." and so on and so on. Soon, it becomes this big gigantic complaint or request that can't be ignored. I guess that's what I wish I could get.

But that's just me. I could be wrong.

New Design

Ok, I've finally gotten around to getting the new design implemented. What's really sad is that this is the design that was originally intented to be part of the "New Year", and I'm just rolling it out now. Regardless, if you are experiencing some problems with the site, please let me know!

(side note for all RSS reader folks out there, you're only seeing a summary now, so for the whole entry, you'll have to come visit the site!)
I've also taken out the edit comments portion of the site, as it wasn't part of the original redesign. There are a few things that need to be done, and I really need to keep up with my weblog. Don't worry a lot of things will be coming back soon!

I also want to add that there are still a few design aspects I'm working on, such as the downloads and the changes/todo areas. Not sure why, just thought that it was important to let you know that. :D

Editing Comments

Here's something cool. Paul released an AJAX edit comments plugin for our pleasure. I'm loving it and it works great! I'm guessing now, after using del.icio.us and all these other utilities, that I will soon have to learn some AJAX and get into the swing of things, and put it into the linklist. But then again, Paul might just incorporate it into EE pretty soon...Who can say! :P

If you feel like playing around with the editing of comments, make some and see what you can edit to see what it looks like. I'm gonna have to get things going for the styles for that though at least. It doesn't look overly pretty. But the fact that I do have it is kinda nice!

New design coming…

New design coming. Soon, I promise. Jules is the only one that's seen the actual design and she liked it, so I have to put it up. I lost the CSS the file (yes, i'm a dork) so I have to redo that again. At least I don't have to redo the actual templates. Only the CSS. :D

On a different note, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to use for my "personal" blog. i.e. blog entries that have nothing to do with EE. I'm doing this I think for a purely researching reason, as I'm trying to get information on the new version of linklist, for improvements. Vast improvements.

Coming soon! Really!

Fix for Linklist Module 1.2.1

There's a real quick fix for those people who are having issues with running both the magpie plugin and the linklist module on the same page. You might receiving this error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class snoopy in /home/andru/public_html/sistem/plugins/pi.magpie.php on line 1798

Please redownload the linklist module from the downloads area and replace the mod.linklist.php and all should be well!

It’s Your Birthday Plugin 1.2.2 Released

I've updated this tag to enable you to display any member field in the database from the exp_members table.

Therefore you'll also be able to display 1 if you wish to link to your member area, as described here

Linklist 1.2.1 Released

I'm releasing Linklist Module version 1.2.1 today for all you folks who have been waiting. There are a few changes and improvements, as well as a couple new features.

To see a full list of changes, check out the CHANGES for Linklist 1.2.1

You can download the file directly from the Downloads area or from here.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hope your Valentine's day is full of happiness and all that stuff. :)

I’m not dead - I’m feeling much better - I’m happy!

Linklist 1.2.1 is gearing up to be released this week. I just want to fix a few things in the documentation and make sure it's good to go before I release it.

So far, I've had no real issues, and have been really concentrating on new features for the linklist (version 1.3).

Once linklist 1.2.1 is released, I am planning on redesigning this site, as the design is getting rather stale and moldy. So be on the lookout for the new and improved (and faster acting!) pd-x eeblog soon!

Also, I did want to mention that I have created RSS feeds for both the todo and changes list for linklist. You should see the "feed" icon next to each respective link.

Linklist 1.2.1 coming soon.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Linklist 1.2.1 will be releasing soon. Soon, I will be unleashing it on my beta testers (actually, not sure if they will be able to test it but hey, what can ya do.) and that means a final release soon.

If you're interested in beta testing it, please let me know. If you're curious to know what's in the next release, take a look at the CHANGES page!

Linklist, the universe and everything

I just wanted to let everyone out there know that I have not forgotten about linklist, nor am I ignoring anyone that might have been sending me emails and questions about it. I'm just real busy, especially with the New Year, people have to try everything cool and they have to have really cool features for their applications and stuff. ( Sometimes I swear I could just keep the boss in a locked room where he can't find the latest buzzwords like AJAX or WASP, etc etc. ) Someday that application will be done. Someday.

But I've been working a bit with EE 1.4+, and looking at extensions and such. I don't know that I'll be developing any extensions just yet, since the one hook I wanted I can't seem to find yet. :P We'll get there! ( of course, it does link with the linklist. )

Lynda made some good points, so I want to be sure Linklist is good to go with those changes as well.

Read on if you're interested in non-linklist news... There's a new redesign in the future of this website. I'm dropping the photolog, and any other attached site and maintaining only the ee-blog here at psychodaisy.com. I've decided I have almost no time to actually do any "real" blogging, but I'm sure i'll probably throw something out there into the "weblog" section. (which is gone, btw, since i took down pd-x the website)

Other than that, I've done enough personal networking at myspace.com and even created my own profile. It's fun! Join up, add me as your friend, let's talk!

It's been a hectic new year, lots of big news, more than i'd ever have time to write about, let's just say, in a nutshell, 1) i've quite smoking (bonus) 2) i've come to realize the world is really a lot crazier than i thought, and 3) work has gotten busier to the point of insanity.

But, I persevere, move on and work on linklist because it's important to me, and as more and more people start using it, I need to be ON it! :D

Missing Since 1/9/2006

UPDATE (If you didn't already know!): Great news, LaCee has been found and she is safe and warm! We would like to thank everyone who has volunteered their time and help! (from laceeverd.com)

I have a friend, Lacee Verd, who has been reported as missing since Monday, January 9, 2006. She was last seen in the Lacey, WA area, in the company of an adult male, Alex Merschon.

Please read more to get the full flyer that has been distributed in the Lacey/Olympia Area. If you have any information, please contact the police immediately.
We now have a website:

http://www.laceeverd.com/

this site has all the information (and up to date) and any new details on LaCee.

Thank you!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Changes … literally

Well, as you may or may not know by now, I've taken down my "main" site and instead have put up the ee-blog in it's place. I've decided that I only need to really have the ee-blog. Things are just gonna change around here.

For those of you with RSS readers, you'll want to visit this entry to get the full details of what's going on around here. You'll notice, first of all that I now have a "CHANGES" section in the left sidebar. This will essentially take the place of my CHANGES file that is distributed along with whatever module I may be distributing. This will have the latest information on any given module and a history to boot. The latest entry will always be "Upcoming changes" to the next version. These CHANGES are already written and 100% complete. So, essentially you get a "live" preview of what's in the next version for sure.

The CHANGES section is exactly that, ever changing and some things will appear or disappear without notice. You'll also notice that like the TODO entries, you can comment on any of these.

Things are changing around here, that's for sure. And yes, I am indeed changing the look of the site as well. That will be forthcoming. Hopefully you'll like it!

pd-x : the website (the blog) is shutting down.

It's getting to be too much to maintain this site. So I won't be posting anything new here. In time, I plan to convert this part of the site to the ee-blog. The ee-blog will still continue, as that's where the bulk of my time for this website is happening. So, if by chance you happen notice a change in this site, that's pretty much why.

To be honest, I just don't have much to say in this site. It's all been fun, but I'm guessing that the ee-blog is plenty enough for me to work with.

So I repeat, the ee-blog will continue to get updated. This site will not.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Updated It’s your birthday plugin

Since it came to my attention that the birthday plugin doesn't work in PHP 4.4, I've gone and updated it. You should re-download the plugin if you are running PHP 4.4. Sorry for the delay!

Some new things going on in the linklist and the site…

Some new things going on in the linklist and the site, if you haven't noticed. I've added a new section, called TODO, as you can see in the left hand column. I've added this so that I will not be distributing my TODO list with my mod, mainly because I seriously don't think everyone even bothers looking at that file. (Of course, I'm assuming too that you are looking at this site. Which I hope you are, since the site will really have the latest info on the modules/plugins I make.)

Also, I'm gonna work a small redesign of the site. I just want to structure a few things differently and get this site a bit more organized right and show what I want to show and so on. So I'll be working on that too.

I also have plans on a CHANGES page, just like my TODO page. Oh, you'll notice that you can comment on the TODO's, so that will give you the ability to express any concerns, suggestions, etc to that feature I'm looking to implement. There are actually a few more that I've been wanting to add, I just need to remember all of them.

I'm finally getting organized. Wow.

Linklist 1.3 is just over the horizon, and there will be some small changes to how the linklist is viewed by super admins. Look in the TODO section to find out exactly what they are and the progress of the feature.

Well, that's all for now, I'm still alive and kicking.

Warcraft Plague Runs Amok

You gotta love this. Is this really real? I mean, I would love to hear that this actually happened. I love it!

Warcraft Plague Runs Amok: "Players in the popular online game find themselves fighting an unstoppable virtual virus. From the Wired News blog Gadgeteer."

(Via Wired News.)

I’m still alive - and then some.

Testing out marsedit using the MovableType API. I have to say this method is much easier.

I'm still trying to figure exactly what's up with Sprint's picture mails, since it doesn't work again with the moblog module. I'm not sure how flickr or textamerica can seem to do it without problems. I'd almost say that they've got sleepless programmers working around the clock.

Too bad we can't just clone Paul and Rick and be done with it. :) On a totally different note, I'm still doing ok. I've got laser surgery for my eye next month, not really looking forward to that, although the doc said it wouldn't hurt, and they'll only have to give me a shot "in the eye" to numb it up. Yeah, "just a shot IN THE EYE". Not quite sure where around my eye he meant he was going to give me a shot, but still - that's gotta be painful to think about.

I foresee some drugs in the future.

I've been back to playing World of Warcraft. It's kinda fun now. I'm starting up Horde, because I've done so much in Alliance, that I'll be playing that side only once in a while. But the storyline for Horde is so much better.

Slashdot Blizzard Interview about World of Warcraft

I found this interview really interesting. It just goes to show that Blizzard has a cookie-cutter reply to just about everything. I'm surprised at how many questions went kinda unanswered. Of course, this doesn't hinder the fact that I love to play this game, and by no means will it decrease my interest in playing. I just found the interview some interesting reading.

You sheep your boyfriend. Oy!

I'm glad Meesh doesn't play WoW :/

I can’t possibly make these up.

Okay, so now everyone's waiting to see the Playboy article/pictorial about this. Come on.

Teacher too sexy for religious classes?

OH, this is WRONG... "Police in West Hartford, Conn., arrested Matthew Flynn, 46, in August for allegedly threatening to castrate a Melly's ice-cream truck driver with a pair of hedge clippers because the driver blared his jingle on and on and on..." full story and more

Linklist Module 1.2 Bug Fix (part deux)

Ok, I've made some bug fixes for version 1.2. I considered making this version 1.2.1, however, there were no real changes to the module to warrant a semi-point release. Here's what's been fixed:

- Cosmetic changes. (even more) You'll notice the inline documentation looks much, much prettier

- Fixed a bug with importing OPML files versus OPML urls

- Fixed a bug with PHP 4.4 and passing variables by reference

- Fixed a rather silly bug of not being able to save a linklist because the module thought you were creating a whole new linklist with a duplicate name. :p

Feel free to download the file yet again and make sure you replace all the files (mcp.linklist.php, mod.linklist.php, and lang.linklist.php).

iTunes 5

If you didn't already know, iTunes 5 is already out to download. It doesn't quite show up on checking for updated versions on Mac or Windows, so until they put that in their update, you'll have to download it from their site directly. :)

Let's hope it's really cool and does lots of great stuff.

(UPDATE: Well, I tried downloading the version for windows, but...the site is busy. Great. At least I got the download for the mac version from MacUpdate.)

Is there an interest in shoutboxes anymore?

I've been doing some thinking (bad, bad thing... thinking=more projects) and I've been considering whether or not to make up an AJAX plugin that will work for EE. This could definitely get me to work on AJAX applications. Though I'm not too keen on starting a new project ( especially since I've been trying to hash out the new 1.3 linklist ) although a project for work has a small sideline of using AJAX in the ginormous application I've been building.

So, I might consider doing something. But I think I'm just wondering if anyone really uses these things anymore. There are a few things (and let me brainstorm here):

1. spammers... we're gonna get them. there's no doubt. One method is to rely on the .htaccess file that the Blacklist/Whitelist module creates (or can create). Or if you don't use the .htaccess file method (for those unfortunate to not be able to use them) we could compare posts to the blacklist/whitelist just like comments. We'd also have to use the same method of preventing comment spam in the shoutbox as well. I say this because I KNOW spammers flock to things like a shoutbox. Especially if it's displays their URLs.

2. Bandwidth... it might not seem like a big concern, but the potential is there. It can happen.

3. Member Integration... It almost has to be just like posting comments. If you're logged in, then there should be no reason whatsoever to put in your name/alias or URL. That stuff is in the system, it should be used.

There are a few things to keep in consideration. I guess I just want to know if there's truly an interest out there. After a while, I've seen comment boxes as a way for spammers to spam the hell out of a site.

And of course, there's always the "old" way of creating a shoutbox.

What folksonomy/social bookmarking tool do you use?

So I ask everyone this for the day. "What folksonomy/social bookmarking tool do you use, and why?" What makes the one you use better than others? Since I've made the Linklist manager for ExpressionEngine, I've often wondered about this.

I've only used Del.ico.us because other people used it in conjunction with the linklist. Also, because people wanted the linklist to be similar. Unfortunately of course, there is no social aspect of linklist because it is your own linklist, and is only shared by others who have access to the linklist module part of your site. (which will change in the future - members will have the ability to create their own linklist and create their own bookmarks on your site.)

Furl again I've used only to research for the linklist. It does look interesting however I have not really used it much at all.

Tag Cloud I signed up for when I was creating keywords (or tags) for linklist. It's very interesting, and I do like it, and I have to admit the look of linklist's Keywords was based upon this concept.

Technorati I feel is probably one of the most popular ones. Although honestly, I "don't get it".

To be honest, I don't get a lot of the folksonomy/social bookmarking sites. To me, it just looks like a huge community of bandwidth and server processor hogging utilities. (not that linklist isn't a bandwidth eater... it could be if you had over 5000 links i'd think.)

So what I'd like to know are your opinions of each one. What do you think? What do you use? Feel free to take this up in the Forums too. (it's getting a bit dusty in there and too many cobwebs are collecting)

Del.icio.us (and other) users needed

I'm working on the next version of Linklist and I'm in need of those people who use services such as Del.icio.us, furl, and any other types of bookmarking/tagging utility. I'd like to hear how I could possibly integrate such applications into the linklist, and how popular each type is. If you'd like to participate, feel free to get a hold of me and we can discuss the options.

Alternatively we can hold an open discussion on the forums as well.

Feedback is essential to making this module great!

Bug Fix: Linklist v1.2

A small bug fix for the linklist for those of you who have imported an OPML. You would get an "unexpected error" whenever importing a file. This is now fixed, and you should be able to import the OPML file perfectly now. Please download the module again, and replace the mcp.linklist.php file. That's it!

Linklist Module 1.2 Released

The latest version of the Linklist module is now released! This version has quite a bit of cosmetic fixes (including the inline documentation) and now features pagination.

The linklist documentation has also been updated to reflect the latest instructions for 1.2. You can find it on the sidebar on the left.

Here are the latest changes (from the CHANGES file):

- Added Snoopy Class to retrieve websites and opml url's for compatibility for those that aren't able to use fopen for URL's.

- Added new parameter "offset". Read the documentation for information on this parameter.

- Cosmetic changes according to the new 1.3 release stylsheets.

- Changed the parameter for the {exp:linklist:entries} tag of member_id, now it defaults to "all", instead of 1, the original Super Admin.

- Changed the variable {url_title} to {linklist:url_title} since it interferes with the {exp:weblog:entries} tag. *duh!*

- Changed the keywords function - now will not "runaway" in a odd keywords situation.

- Changed how keywords are retrieved. If you specify keywords="ee" and you have a keyword like "tennessee", it will not pick up "tennessee" as a valid keyword.

- The original Super Admin (member id of 1) is now able to view/edit/delete *all* linklists, even if they are created by other members. At this time, however, they are not able to create linklists for other members. (This may change in the future)

- Pagination is now available for linklists. Please read the documentation for more information.

- {no_results}...{/no_results} has been added to the exp:linklist:entries and exp:linklist:keywords tags.

Linklist 1.2 Release Coming Soon!

For those of you who have been waiting for the 1.2 release of Linklist, be warned, it will be released soon. (soon meaning once I'm satisfied with one more small change that hopefully someone is checking out and works ok for him.)

There are a few changes/fixes/additions. Fun fun! Check out the new changes:

New picture phone

So after all this time, I've finally gotten around to getting a picture phone. From Sprint. Now, I've had sprint for the longest time. I mean I've been with them for at least 5 years now. I've never had a problem.

Until Now. Yay.

So I'm happy, thinking I can finally really moblog. I mean now I can send updates to my photolog without being on the web. Cool. Um...NO. They decide to change their format ON THE DAY I decide to buy my phone. Conspiracy. I'm not kidding, they knew it!

Luckily, Paul (the man) fixed up the moblog module and it's working all great again. Until they change their format again. I'm sure it'll happen. I'm just wondering how places like TextAmerica and Flickr get theirs working right away. I guess they have enough people to sit down and check what works and what doesn't, and then notify the programmers who fix it so fast, it doesn't even look like there was ever a problem.

Oy. So I'm sure I'll have a ton of stupido photo pics on my photolog. Some of them might even actually be good!

GoogleTalk

So Google now has it's own IM service called Google Talk (I will dub it GT from now on) where you can send IM's, emails, or talk to your friends. I wonder how fast this will catch on. Pretty interesting. They dont' have a client for Mac or Linux yet, but they do tell you how to set up existing clients for GT. I'm using it on Adium myself, and it *looks* like it's working, I just don't have anyone on my list just yet. :)

The windows application is in beta, but the service looks to be pretty solid. It uses Jabber, which works for me. Of course, I can't talk to anyone using Adium, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Oh, you'll be required to have a gmail account to use the service, since it incorporates itself into that. Pretty nifty. Feel free to add me to your GT list, my gmail is

Oy vey! Not again!

As is invariably the case in my life, I am never satisfied with any work I do. Which in this case means the design of this site. While of course, I *do* like it, at the same time, I don't like it. ( Come on designers, I know you know what I mean! )

It's tough, but this time I'm thinking of a "non standard" way of displaying as much as possible to show, *and* make it easy to read, and quite simple to read. I know, why not make the site o like flips and stuff, right? There's never a real answer, and perhaps someday I might even come up with a solution. But it's not today.

So, as always, I'll be thinking of a new way to lay out my site. Meanwhile, enjoy the site as it is now, as it might change tomorrow. (that would be a feat for me, believe me!)

Sunday Night Bowling

Well, I've taken up the most improbable thing I've ever thought I'd do. I've joined league bowling. I am now part of a mixed bowling league. Tonight was the first night of bowling, and well, I'd say I did pretty darn good for someone who hasn't bowled in AGES. This game marks your average, and I got an average of 87. Now, while that would be outstanding if I were to playing Candlepin Bowling, I'm afraid in normal bowling games, that's pretty poor. Of course, I get a totally kick ass handicap now. So during the course of however many days, (it seems the league lasts like forever), I hope to improve my bowling average way higher from 87. At least I have my own shoes. (No ball yet though.)

“new” Look and more

Well, I've finally finished up the last touches to the "new" design. My main goal was to make the site look pretty similar all over. And once again, when with a minimalistic (kinda) method. There are hardly any images on these pages, which should make the site load much faster and a bit more efficiently. (Not to say that having images is bad, I'm just a minimalist, remember)

If you're having any issues accessing parts of the site, then please let me know.

The linklist beta is still ongoing if you're looking to test this out. The more folks that try to use it the better in this case. I've already got stuff in store for version 1.3, and will be working on those pretty soon. (Although I'm considering just incorporating the changes into 1.2, and resending the beta to my beta testers)

Please contact me if you wish to try out the beta.

DTV: Internet TV

So Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF) just released DTV Beta for Mac. It's pretty nice. Basically it's a way to keep all the vlogs you might visit in check and in a central place. So far it's been pretty easy to set up and watch. I've watched quite a few already, and well, I'm pretty happy with the program.

I'll admit though, I haven't been much of a vlog watcher myself, but perhaps this program will ease me into it. :) And if you're wondering if I'll ever open a vlog, I'm thinking probably not, but you never know, do you?

Oh I did also want to mention that I don't know of too many vlogs out there. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

Weekend Recap

Well, this last weekend was pretty busy. Brother-in-law's birthday, it was also a belated celebration (well, from our point of view) for the parent's anniversary. (Meesh's parents that is.) So saturday, there was a bbq at the parent's house, which was excellent. They just got back from a good fishing trip and bbq'ed up some halibut and salmon, and we also managed to cook up some steak as well. It was a very good feast, and my phrase for the day was, "I'm not eating too much today, I don't want to explode." Needless to say everyone was trying to get me to explode. It was a lot of fun.

Sunday, we got invited to hang out in the boat for the day. Now that was fun. I've posted one photo from the digital on the photolog, however, the rest of my shots will have to get developed. We went up to Seattle and back, and had some lunch in Gig Harbor. Pretty nice day! We also managed to watch the Blue Angels as they were flying over Seattle, and I'm still not sure why they were there, but they pretty much flew right above us in the water, and I got a few shots of that. Hopefully they turn out ok! I'm anxious to see them.

It was a pretty eventful weekend. I took a short break today just to recuperate, since the sun burned me pretty good and I've been exhausted. Hope your weekend was just as fun!

Changes, Looks, and so on

You can see I've changed the look of the main site. I've been itching to get a new design going since I bought the forum module. So what you see here is what the rest of the site will mainly look like! I'm gearing to get the EE-blog, the photolog, and the forums to look just like it does now. It's going to be so much fun! *ugh*

Well, other than that, I'm still waiting for November to roll around to go see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I'm really gearing up to see it since I've finished reading The Half Blood Prince.

If you're having any problems accessing any part of the site, please let me know so I can get it fixed up lickety split!

And birthday wishes go to mikey. Sorry, no spooky images from me, I'm boring like that. :)

Linklist Module Latest Updates to 1.2

Well, pagination is now officially working very well. I've worked out a few kinks in the way that 1.3 checks the URL to make sure there's a valid template, and now I personally think it's good to go. However, I see an issue! (there's always some of those)

If you are using the linklist in the sidebar (like most of you probably are) and use pagination, and you are on, say, a single entry page, you can get funky results. Not from the linklist, but from the weblog or comments tags. After I noticed it it didn't surprise me, as I'm never surprised anymore when things don't go the way I thought it would. hehe.

Let's use the url http://www.psychodaisy.com/index.php/weblog/comments/this_is_a_title_permalink. If you are on that page and use linklist pagination and create a URL like http://www.psychodaisy.com/index.php/weblog/comments/this_is_a_title_permalink/LP3, you'll notice that the linklist does paginate. However...you may not necessarily see the right weblog entry to be commented on. I've noticed that it actually display the latest weblog entry comments. This makes perfect sense, because I believe what is happening is that the check for the url_title of the entry is seeing the url_title as: this_is_a_title_permalink/LP3. At least that is my theory.

Now, to me, this may be perfectly acceptable. Most people will probably sort through the links on the sidebar, as they're looking for the links, not necessarily the entry itself. It's tough to say.

So, I'm saying that this version is almost ready for release, however I only need a few more people to beta test it. In a nutshell, here are the new things:

- Pagination : you can now paginate your linklist, with syntax almost exactly like normal weblog and comments entries. Plans in the future to have the pagination_links be customizable.

- Cosmetic Changes : The CP side has had a cosmetic facelift. Since 1.3, some of the CSS classes were changed around.

- Member_id parameter changed : if you omit the member_id parameter in the exp:linklist:entries tag, it will assume ALL members' linklists. So if you have more than one person entering their own linklists, then by default, omitting the member_id will display them all. (this default used to be member_id = 1)

Bonafide style contest

I just noticed that Bonafide Style is running a summer contest: Summer Love Letters.

"Tell us 150 words or less what YOU would have us do for your blog design if you won a custom design."

The winner gets to have a custom design AND a free personal license of ExpressionEngine. Wow, get your letters written up! :) You can find out more details and rules at their site.

Hell’s Kitchen is over!

Well, the season finale was great. It was good to see the old faces again in the kitchen, although I did think it was a blow to Elsie that neither Michael or Ralph picked her right away. It shouldn't have come as any surprise to Chef Ramsay, as he said, since he should know that they weren't particularly fond of her.

I'm finally glad that it's over however, and can worry about other things Monday nights. :) I thought the restaurant themes were great, although I think I leaned over to Michael's side more so than Ralph, mainly because the retro look is kinda great, but I think I'm over all that. Regardless, it still looked great I thought. The uniforms were a bit different on both sides, the women for Ralph and the men for Michael. I have to agree with Chef Ramsay that they were a bit different. "the men look like ballerinas, don't they." I loved it. :)

Of course, I find myself not mentioning who the winner was just in case you didn't see it. I'm very glad that Michael won. I'm not saying that Ralph didn't deserve it. I think he did a great job. I just think that Michael is the one to get. I felt Michael excelled the most. Good Job Michael, and seriously I hope you're having a blast working with Chef Ramsay, that would just simply rock.

Forums and other stuff

Well, I've just added a "last forum posts" sidebar area. At least you don't have to go into the forums to know if there are any new entries in there. We'll see how that goes. For those of you reading via RSS, you might want to also check out the forums. Not sure if there's an RSS feed type thing for the forums, but I suspect you could use the last recent forums tag to do something similar.

Also, I'm gonna release Linklist beta 1.2 for those of you don't get to read the forum. It's in the new and announcements to get all the details.

Enjoy!

Who *is* the Half-Blood Prince?

You may ask yourself this question if you are into the entire storyline of Harry Potter and have picked up and started reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I've just finished the story myself, and while normally I am not one to read rumours, especially about Harry Potter, I'm just curious to know what people thought. What people have started to speculate. I don't pretend to know, and I surely won't, until Book 7 is finally released...whenever that would be.

There are spoilers contained within this entry, so if you have already read the book, then continue futher, otherwise, wait till later, or get spoiled now. Sad. Sad sad sad ending. I can't say I didn't see it coming, and neither can I say that I did not see the "betrayal" of Snape. Of course, I reserve all judgement till later. Oh, I don't doubt that Dumbledore is dead. I just don't believe 100% that Dumbledore was fooled into trusting Snape. While Snape is a great occlumens, who's to say he was better than Dumbledore? Who's to say he isn't better than Voldemort? It's really tough to say I think.

Which brings me to something else. Perhaps I missed it before in another book, but why exactly is Voldemort afraid of Dumbledore and Dumbledore alone? Yes, we know Dumbledore was an extremely powerful wizard. But why is Voldemort afraid of him? We do get to learn more about the relationship between Voldemort and Dumbledore, and yes, I concede it could be because Voldemort could never see what Dumbledore knew. (as demonstrated in Dumbledore's memory of their last meeting at Hogwarts.) This tells me that Dumbledore is a greater occlumens than Voldemort. So, in essence, Snape must be a greater occlumens than Dumbledore if he indeed fooled him into thinking he could trust Snape. Which in turn, would make Snape greater than Voldemort. It's a bit crazy in there for theories.

I did love the history lessons that Dumbledore was giving Harry, using the pensieve. It's always a good strategy to know your enemy before you defeat them. Considering Voldemort knows incredibly more about Potter, than vice versa, it was good for Dumbledore to even (somewhat) the odds. At least now, Potter knows what he has to do to defeat Voldemort (In a vague sort of way).

There was definitely a heightened bit of romance/teenage obsession in this book. I was rather happy to see that Ginny and Harry did finally (for a short time) get to spend time and be with each other. Very nice touch, I thought. I was also glad to see that the Hermione/Ron romance is kinda progressing, although it did seem redundant to me, as it seems like they've been doing the same thing since Goblet of Fire. (Hermione goes out with boy, Ron gets upset, stir, mix, repeat.)

I was glad to see that Luna Lovegood was not forgotten, although I felt there could have been much more of Neville in the story. I still feel that Neville has a crucial role to play in the last chapter of Book 7. I often think of him as the unsung hero.

Oddly enough, I did not catch who exactly was the Half-Blood Prince until about 3/4 of the way into the book. I had my suspicions, thinking at first that it was indeed Voldemort (since his father was a muggle), but when Snape reacted the way he did when Harry used the SectumSempra spell, I knew there was something going on there.

I knew, however that J.K.R. just couldn't leave something for us to think about, and that would be the note and the locket. The identity of R.A.B. is probably not important (or very important, hard to say), but I am just curious to know who it would be. Obviously someone who did not expect to live to see The Dark Lord get killed. I can only suspect that it is a former Death-Eater who despised Voldemort, and knew him in his younger years. That would be a very big speculation.

So what will Book 7 be about besides Harry Potter running of and trying to get Voldemort? Will there be another year at Hogwarts? Harry mentioned it himself, that even if there was, he would not be there. He wants to avenge the deaths of those he truly loved (well, we can't say he loved Cedric, now can we?) and visit his old home. It's tough to say, but I am really looking forward to it.

J.K.R, I love your work, never stop writing.

The season finale…next week in Hell’s Kitchen

Ok. So.

I knew it.

She was going to get the axe. I mean. How could Jessica not? For one thing, did you see her scratching her ass? OMG. No. Please. While this may be perfectly acceptable behavior in the headhunting world, it is not in the culinary world. Of course, she wasn't in a kitchen so I'll give her that. Regardless, she was a complete mess, not knowing how to get things done. And sadly, only 1 person liked her chicken. Ralph's fiancee spit it out. I mean come on, can the food really be that bad? Honestly. It's chicken.

Not that he hasn't before, but Ralph's getting on my nerves. I really dislike him. Sadly, professionally he would seem kinda ideal to win. He's got the experience, he's got know-how. But I just don't like him. There's really something about him that I find very...dishonest. But that's everyone, right?

Michael on the other hand, while he is very evil, I think he knows what it's really about. He wants the restaurant too, and he's not going to let Ralph stop him. He helped out really well with Jessica tonight. I mean he pretty much took over her dish. (of course, the tuna wasn't selling much either.) Ralph, on the other hand was the "I can't be bothered right now."

I really am rooting for Michael to win. I"m really anxious to see how the other "failed" chefs stack up next week. Now truly, Michael and Ralph can sympathize with Gordon Ramsay. hehe. This one should be entertaining to watch.

On a totally unrelated note except pertaining to entertainment, I finally got around to getting the latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. While not finished with it yet, I'm getting there pretty quick. I'm not wanting to finish it too fast, (lord knows I will though - and read it twice before Goblet of Fire comes out in theatres) but when I start reading, I just can't put it down.

I'd probably talk more about Harry Potter, but that's really a whole new post, isn't it?

Linklist 1.1 Mod Bug-fix

Ok, thanks to Mark on the heads up for this problem with the url_title tag in the linklist. I've fixed it and made the linklist tag as linklist:url_title so that it will work without issues if used within another tag, especially the weblog entries tag.

You should re-download the linklist module if you are having issues with this (and probably a good idea to redownload it anyways). You only need to update the mod.linklist.php file. Everything else is the same.

As for the problem with all of you with the OPML import, the fix is easy. You can find it on the forums here. Essentially you just need to add the OPML mime type into your system/lib/mimes.php file.

Batman Begins

Finally got around to watching this movie. Since I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, you'll have to continue reading after I write this summary.

If you have yet to watch this movie, I say it's a must see. I'm really impressed with Christian Bale. I've always loved his acting, when I first saw him in American Psycho (which happens to be one of my favourite movies of all time - I know I must be crazy right?). I thought it was done very well. Very dark, with a very decent storyline. Everything I envisioned the "Dark Knight" would truly be like.

I have to admit that I've never felt as much emotion about any other Batman movie like this one. I thought the characters were very believable, and very well done. The actors and actresses did a great job. And to my surprise, "Commissioner" Gordon was no other than one of my all-time favourite actors, Gary Oldman. That alone made me realize I loved this movie. I was never disappointed with a movie he's ever appeared in. (at least if there were, I've blocked them out.) The storyline was great. I loved the fact that Liam Neeson was the bad guy. He really does play a great bad guy I think. Although honestly, I think I had a hard time picturing him as a "martial artist". Even after watching this movie, I guess that I just stereotyped him and never thought of him in a role such as this. A bad guy yes, but someone that could swing and kick like Jackie Chan? No. With that said, I still loved his character.

I was really surprised to see a lot of big names (or some that used to be big names) in the movie. Those such as Rutger Hauer. Man, I haven't seen a movie with him in ages. I'm sure he's done a few, but I haven't seen one lately. And his role was kinda small I thought. Big Tycoon that seemed like he had the best intentions but then didn't...he just didn't get much of the story in there. Of course, he was dwarfed by Liam Neeson, as well as the mob boss.

Since I haven't really been keeping up with the whole story or origins of Batman, I'm not sure how much of the story in Batman Begins conforms to the DC Comics Dark Knight. It seemed good. And it seemed entirely plausible. I just want to say one of the best scenes yet, is the scene where young Bruce Wayne is sitting by his fallen parents. Just sitting there, not knowing what to do. That scene was priceless. In my mind's eye, it was exactly as how I would have seen it. I loved it. Kudos to the director for getting that scene right on.

Katie Holmes was a pretty good character too. Like I said, I have no idea of the DC Comics version of the origins of Batman, so I don't know if her character was in the story or if Hollywood invented her to put a love twist into the story. (you know, boy meets girl, boy becomes alter-ego, boy loses girl) I think she did a great job though. I was never really a Katie Holmes fan, even in the days of Dawson's Creek. But for this movie, I thought she was pretty good. There were a few scenes where I thought she could have done better ( the Arkham Asylum for one ), but all in all I say good job, Katie. Good Job.

I'm kinda glad they didn't really have a big time criminal (the Joker, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, etc etc) since this was a movie about how Batman began, after all. He didn't just suddenly go fight crime because the Joker got loose. (although I did like how Lt. Gordon hands Batman the "calling card" of the Joker to him at the end - nice touch guys)

The only thing I can say about this movie is one that me and my friends say when we rate a movie. "I'll buy it on DVD."

It’s heating up in Hell’s Kitchen

Ok so last night, I was pretty pissed at the show. I was pretty damn upset at the eliminations. So much so that I want a do-over for yesterday's episode. LOL

Let me just say a few things about some of the folks on that show.

Ralph - OMG I cannot stand this man. He's a really cool guy, seriously, and in a way I really like him. But damn he's a two-face sonofabitch. Seriously. How can he be so nice to some folks one second and then the next, he's like the devil. Can't stand him. He's obviously a pretty sore loser too. I admit that I get pissed when things don't go my way, but damn.

Michael - Another two-facer. But you know, Michael is still professional about it. (well sometimes - remember when he called Jimmy a "fatty"? Pretty bad.) But he still is a sonofabitch because he definitely thinks he's better than everyone else and sees Ralph as his only competition.

Jessica - No comment. Why she's gone this far is beyond me.

Elsie - I love her. I think she's improved the most. I mean seriously. She has done a great job, has won a lot of the competitions...but I suppose she was being carried by the others. But IMHO, she had the greatest potential to turn out an incredible restaraunt. Seriously. and she got 86'ed...wtf. I still can't believe Ramsey chose her to leave over Jessica.

And all the bad things the trio have been saying behind Elsie's back...are they not ashamed of themselves? What kills me is that Ramsay KNEW they were being asses and asked Elsie, but she said she "had the support from her team". I can only guess that Ramsay already knew she had enough and enjoyed her time there but didn't want to go through with it.

I'm still upset she left though. But hey, she's got her own fame, perhaps something will come from it.

It’s your Birthday Plugin v1.2.1

Finally "officially" releasing this plugin. I know Paul fixed it up in the past, so I guess I should finally get around to actually making it work. So here's the update for It's your birthday, nothing has changed in it except that it's now updated for 1.3. :) Enjoy!

New Forums

I've installed the forums module today. I'm still working on the design, but the forums will give one easy access for support for my modules and plugins. Although lately I haven't been updating quite enough, (only because of server moves and fix-its), I'll be soon back on the warpath.

Test out the forums if you wish, see what there is we can get going there. I'll definitely be working on the templates, so things might look a bit crazy in there.
