Blogathon 2006 - Change in charity (crosspost)

This is a crosspost from my personal blog at hello! yoshi

For those of you who have donated, thank you very much! Every penny counts, and no donation is too small. I've decided to change the charity I'll be doing the blogathon for. Just this past week, we received horrific news of an accident involving a very very dear friend. She lost her life that day, and in memory of her, I will be blogging the blogathon in her name for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Our friend was a true figher and passionate for finding a cure. So, the entire time I'm blogging for 24 hours, I'll be blogging for her. I don't wish to disclose any detailed information until the memorial website is created and completed, and more information is given out to the press (if needed).

I only ask that you consider becoming my sponsor to help those that can still be saved.

Please take this moment in time for silent thoughts and prayers for her.

Blogathon 2006

This is a crosspost from my personal blog at hello! yoshi.

I've decided to partake in the Blogathon 2006. For those of you who are new to blogathon, basically, for 24 hours, every half hour, I'll be blogging about something. Why am I insanely blogging for 24 hours, with no sleep in site? I'm blogging for charity, and for my sponsors (that'll be you).

[UPDATE NOTE] Since I changed my sponsor, my account is on hold for 24 hours, so if you're trying to make a donation, please wait till tomorrow, it should be back up and fine! Thank you!
This is the first year I'll be blogging for blogathon, so I'm an amateur at 24 hour blogging. My charity for this year will be The American Cancer Society. If you see something else on the blogathon page, please note, I'm in process of changing it, so it might be wrong.

My goal is to raise $100. It looks like we're at the $10 mark! I will update this page for every donation that is given, so everyone can know just how close we are to the goal. Since this is my first blogathon, i thought I'd start low. If you would be interested in sponsoring me, then click on the blogathon image on the right menu. Thank you for your donations!

What’s been going on lately

As I'm sure you're aware, this site has been pretty quiet lately. Unfortunately, I've not been working too much on the linklist as of late, since there are other projects that keep popping up constantly. (as well as just too many interesting other things.) Anyways, this is just a reminder that not all is lost, I have not forgot about linklist, I've just been trying to gather a lot together and go over a lot of changes to EE. It's been fun!
On another note, I've decided to take my "blog" from myspace and move it all over to hello! yoshi. That'll be my new "fun" site as I will probably do ridiculous and crazy things there as I cannot here on this blog. (we're all serious at pd-x eeblog.)

I'm aware of the many feature requests for the next version of linklist and hope to implement most, if not all of them. I'm just contemplating on whether or not I want to rewrite the entire module or just wait for EE 2.0. Still on the fence about that.

I do however want to rewrite the documentation so it is a bit more "official" meaning it will look more along the lines of the normal Expression Engine documentation. In essence, the documentation within the CP will become more of a quick reference, much like the quick reference guide for Expression Engine now. I've also contemplated context sensitive help, however that is looking to be much further along than the next version. :) Call that one a work in progress.

Server Move

There may have been some serious wackiness going on, as I have moved this site to a different server. Just some preparations going on for something big I'm preparing to do. No, this doesn't concern Linklist. However, I plan on working a few things out with Linklist soon, and releasing a new version. Exciting stuff!

Are you using linklist?

I'd like to put together a linklist of (what else?) sites that are presently using linklist as their link manager/blogroll. If you're using linklist as such, please let me know! Also, if you're using the linklist in a "special" or different than normal way besides a blogroll, that would be great to hear from you as well! I know there were a few folks who have been using linklist for so many different things, and i'd love to hear from you!
You can get in touch with me via the normal channels, leave a comment, send me an email, or leave a message on the forums, whatever you'd like. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you!

Linklist losing interest?

I'm not really sure nowadays if the linklist module is something that I really need to maintain. I keep seeing people move away from it, for bigger and better things. It could very well be for better folksonomy, which seems to be one big reason, and yet another is just the vastness of places like bloglines or del.ico.us. I think perhaps the biggest factor with waning interest to linklist (to me) is the lack of community involvement with the module.
Of course, I could just be high, and not realize that there are lot of people who actually use and rely on linklist and are waiting for the vast number of improvements it needs. Which is probably the case. :)

Of course, inevitably, I come to the great wall called "TIME" and I cannot do much about that. The linklist at best was a side project of mine that grew into this monster of a module. It's still a side project, and I keep wanting to improve it, however, time seems to run away and I just never have enough. I need more hours in a day, it's as simple as that.

Since there haven't really been too many feature requests to linklist, I just assume two things: 1) it's working satisfactory, and has all the features a user could ever want! or 2) no one has any suggestions, because they don't expect it to do anything more. I'm sure that neither is true, however, there are times when that's what i'm thinking. I know there is room for improvement. I know there are things in there that you wish you had, but you never say.

You really need to start telling me what you need in the module.

I know a lot of the stuff is already on the TODO list. I think that there is always room for a "i second that feature request" and a "wow, i wish this had that too." because comments like those escalate a TODO item or Feature Request into the next priority "HIGH" to be completed.

Overall, I guess feedback about the module would be great. I would love to see remarks such as "dude, your module sucks because..." Of course, it does have to follow with an explanation, as that is the best part of knowing what really sucks about something. If something is not working like you thought, how much you wanna bet at least one other person thought the same thing? So you voice your opinion, and that other person comes out of their shell and says "yeah...i totally agree." and so on and so on. Soon, it becomes this big gigantic complaint or request that can't be ignored. I guess that's what I wish I could get.

But that's just me. I could be wrong.

New Design

Ok, I've finally gotten around to getting the new design implemented. What's really sad is that this is the design that was originally intented to be part of the "New Year", and I'm just rolling it out now. Regardless, if you are experiencing some problems with the site, please let me know!

(side note for all RSS reader folks out there, you're only seeing a summary now, so for the whole entry, you'll have to come visit the site!)
I've also taken out the edit comments portion of the site, as it wasn't part of the original redesign. There are a few things that need to be done, and I really need to keep up with my weblog. Don't worry a lot of things will be coming back soon!

I also want to add that there are still a few design aspects I'm working on, such as the downloads and the changes/todo areas. Not sure why, just thought that it was important to let you know that. :D

Editing Comments

Here's something cool. Paul released an AJAX edit comments plugin for our pleasure. I'm loving it and it works great! I'm guessing now, after using del.icio.us and all these other utilities, that I will soon have to learn some AJAX and get into the swing of things, and put it into the linklist. But then again, Paul might just incorporate it into EE pretty soon...Who can say! :P

If you feel like playing around with the editing of comments, make some and see what you can edit to see what it looks like. I'm gonna have to get things going for the styles for that though at least. It doesn't look overly pretty. But the fact that I do have it is kinda nice!

New design coming…

New design coming. Soon, I promise. Jules is the only one that's seen the actual design and she liked it, so I have to put it up. I lost the CSS the file (yes, i'm a dork) so I have to redo that again. At least I don't have to redo the actual templates. Only the CSS. :D

On a different note, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to use for my "personal" blog. i.e. blog entries that have nothing to do with EE. I'm doing this I think for a purely researching reason, as I'm trying to get information on the new version of linklist, for improvements. Vast improvements.

Coming soon! Really!

Fix for Linklist Module 1.2.1

There's a real quick fix for those people who are having issues with running both the magpie plugin and the linklist module on the same page. You might receiving this error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class snoopy in /home/andru/public_html/sistem/plugins/pi.magpie.php on line 1798

Please redownload the linklist module from the downloads area and replace the mod.linklist.php and all should be well!
