Are you a gamer? Do you spend countless hours playing Call of Duty or perhaps you’re into games like Titan Quest. Perhaps you’re really into MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). Would you like to have conversations with your peers? Find out who else is out there? Then you need to head over v2k : The Forums. I’m reviving my old forums for when we used to play Counter Strike. Although there are no stats there (yet) for any of the games we currently play, (this includes Titan Quest, COD, Left 4 Dead, and so on) there will be plenty of smack talk and fun. Come on over, you might just like it.

A friendly writing competition

So cybr and I decided to put together a small friendly writing competition. There are no big prizes or anything, and honestly there are no prizes. At the most there are simply bragging rights. Anyways, we’re opening it up to anyone who would like to participate. Basically we’re looking for writers to write a short story, anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 words, within a months time. Specifically, next month (October). It’s kinda like nanowrimo, except not as much is involved.

So if you’re interested in joining in our competition, please let me know! Leave a comment, send me an email, send me a message or whatever. Don’t hesitate though, the competition begins on October 1st, and ends on October 31st. I definitely look forward to hearing from you guys!

How long is too long?

So as you may or may not know, every week I have to drive to Seattle (well, Meesh drives) to get labs and get seen by a nephrologist (the fancy word for a kidney doctor). Now, they warn you in the beginning you may end up waiting for a while during a clinical visit since they get real busy. I understand. I really do. It can get really crazy, but if you make an appointment, then do you really expect to wait long? Isn’t there a reason you make an appointment? I mean you make one so you don’t have to wait right?

One day, we waited for 2 hours after my scheduled appointment time. 2 hours! How long would you wait for an appointment? I now find out that this is a common occurrence with this clinic. And yes, it’s University of Washington Medical Center, one of the top ten hospitals of the nation (or so they say).

So the date has been set to have surgery on July 29th. It’s gonna be a long day, I suspect. Me and my sister will both be going under the knife to transfer over one of her kidneys. I still think that after the surgery, we’ll be telepathically linked or something. I think it’ll be cool. I have to admit that I might be a bit nervous about the whole thing. Or perhaps it’s just excitement that I’m getting it done and won’t have to do dialysis anymore who knows. I’m definitely excited.

As most or all of you might know, my dear friend Tiggerprr‘s (Ammy) husband (Ken Theobald) just recently passed away. Surviving him are my friend and 3 of their children. Times are tough. Medical bills pile up. They could use your help. Without Ken, they now have no benefits, and must pay out of pocket for their medical expenses. Let’s not forget about food and housing. I know times are tough for everyone. But it’s harder for them. Please find it in your heart to give even a $1 to help them out. If all my visitors donated a $1, then she’d receive $5 but that’s besides the point.

Honestly though, all joking aside, they could really use the help. Please use the donate button on the right sidebar to give whatever you can give. Please spread the word as well. Feel free to link to this post or to the donate button. Please help out!

RIP Ken Theobald

I remember once going up to Chicago to see Eddie Izzard. We stayed up in a Residence Inn. I don’t remember if we stayed the night after or before the concert. But regardless it was a good time. It was me, cybr, ken, Tiggerprr and ashlyn. We had such an awesome time I loved it. I remember we drove around the next day too looking around for some asian grocery store. I don’t even remember what it was. I just remember doing it. Those were some good times. I totally miss those times.

I don’t know if any of you knew Ken, but if any of Ken’s friends find their way here, then you can visit his obituary online. We’ll totally miss him. I know I will miss arguing with him about something stupid. We always did that. Damn that man was smart!

Just wanted to let everyone know it might be quiet around here for a while. A close friend passed away and things just suck right now. So it might get quiet for a short bit while I stew.

Expression Engine 1.6.7

Expression Engine 1.6.7 has been released, and all users should upgrade to the new version. With this release is news of continued support for Expression Engine 1.x. Did we ever have a doubt? Of course not. I think they even still support some pMachine sites out there.

They’ve added the {parent_id} tag to the categories tag, which is pretty exciting, since it was a feature request! Yes, they do listen to EE users!

Other than that, there are of course bug fixes and security updates. All users are encouraged to update.
