So I’ve been considering lately that I should just go ahead and enable comment moderation. Why do you ask? Well, captcha is all well and good, however, people can still post spam coments. It’s entirely possible. With comment moderation, I would get to choose whether or not it shows up on the site. However, if you’re a member of this site, then the comment will go through automatically, without moderation. So if you’re not logged in, then you’ll have to wait to see your comment. If you are logged in, you will see immmediatly.
So what say you as the people who visit and make comments? Would having to become a member to have your comment posted immediately deter you entirely from making comments at all?
Updated: Moderation? I think I’ll pass for now. Hopefully they make it so captcha is not required for members though. That would be awful nice. : )

Sometimes I like to make a comment and add to the discussion but I don’t want to log in. In those cases moderation bothers me.
Have you been getting that many spam comments posted that you feel that moderation is necessary? I haven’t gotten any since I implemented captcha.
I mean, sure, the COULD physically post spam comments, but I think the joy of the spammer is being able to do it all automatically and with minimal effort, right?
I know that I would probably not comment as much on any blog if I was forced to register or have to wait to see my comment.
But that’s me. I’m instant gratification like that.
I have recieved two comment spams after turning on captchas. Two is a lot. Zero is a little.
Nothing can deter me from making a comment.
Nope, I don’t mind being a member. In fact, I prefer it. I don’t have to type anything but a comment that way. (and I have an avatar!) and, in my journal, you have to have an account to even -see- it.
I wouldn’t mind either way. As long as I was told that comments were moderated because if my comments didn’t show up immediately, I’d think that something was wrong. But it wouldn’t bother me.
“Hopefully they make it so captcha is not required for members though.”
hey yoshi- couldn’t you make it where captcha is only for non-members using the if not_logged_in or if logged_out logic in ee?
Nice one
Hopefully they make it so captcha is not required for members though. That would be awful nice.
I’m not 100%, but I thought they did that with the latest release. Either that or someone in the forums figured out a way to do it. I cna’t remember, but I remember reading somewhere that it can be done.
You’re right bush, it’s been in there for a while now.
I made that response a while back.
