The Holy Empire of Yoshi
“Faith in the Father of the Holy Empire.”

UN Category: Father Knows Best State
Civil Rights: Some Economy: Reasonable
Political Freedoms: Few
Location: the Pacific

The Holy Empire of Yoshi is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The large government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 26%, but much higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Trout Farming.

Crime is moderate. Yoshi’s national animal is the wolf, which frolics freely in the nation’s many lush forests, and its currency is the looba.

Listen.

“Someone once told me that you should live each day as if it were your last. Because one of these days, it will be.”

And here’s what she told me:

“We could keep him, that wouldn’t be a problem…i couldn’t let him stay outside last night, he was downtown with a homeless lady, she was trying to find a home for him…she took him from her friends who were evicted, and since they had kids they had to go to a shelter and couldn’t do that with a dog, so she chose to take the dog and stay on the street…it was sad….The homeless lady had given the dog her jacket and was sitting on plastic bags”

*cries*

Um…ow.

Meanwhile, it’s ok to say such words as “bullshit” and “asshole” on tv shows like ER and NYPD Blue. Gotta love it:

Obviously, these people didn’t read that article about the toilet seats I posted about a couple days ago:

If you didn’t already know about the Microsoft Security Hole, there is one. Or two. Or three. :) Someday we’ll have a rock solid OS. Or not.

Microsoft warns of widespread web security hole

Holy crap. After a street goes for like a few miles, does it cease to become a street? Wouldn’t it be like a highway? Apparently not!

Ask Yahoo: What is the longest street in the world?

Lastly I’ll leave you with an old photo of the week. Amy’s photos have always caught my eye. Very good work. Yes, she does nudes, and yes, she is nude in this self portrait, and no, there is nothing “revealing”. i.e. I personally think it is safe to view at work. (then again, I consider this art, as most people should anyways) Give her a chance and look through her portfolio. Incredible work. Someday I hope to get to her level.

Godspeed You Black Emperor!

When barb told me about this band, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, I was thinking, “what a funky name. Cool.” But when I listened to their music… Wow. I know it’s not for everyone. By far. But especially if you like Portishead, you would love Godspeed. (I would like to add that they don’t really sound like Portishead. LOL Just saying.) These guys are great. I just wonder why I haven’t heard their stuff before!

They just released their latest album, “yanqui u. x. o.” on the 11th of this month (US release) and It’s definitely worth a listen. You can get mp3 samples from their site. I suggest taking a listen. :)

Thanks barb!

That pesky moon!

I didn’t realize that it took so much skill to watch a meteor shower. If you’re looking for tips to see the Leonid meteor shower on 11/19, then check it out.

I just gaze up at the sky. *shrug* :p

Rog has made a page for the GREATEST COMMERCIAL EVER! It’s Arnold Schwarzenegger in true form doing Japanese commercials. This one is about a “vitamin” drink, very popular in Japan. Anyways, this commercial is HILARIOUS. You’ll need quicktime, so download it. Short but funny. Commercials are just like this in Japan too. I’ve got plenty of videos that have commercials I should transfer some to the computer so I can share. :)
