Since a few people have asked me where I get my Japanese Dorama, I’ve decided I’ll post a few things on how to get it.
First of all, if you don’t understand Japanese, that’s not a problem. The kind people that distribute them (and others) have subtitled them in english. Might nice of them really. So don’t feel like you have to understand Japanese to watch them.
Second of all, you’ll need to be sure that you are updated on your DivX. DivX can be downloaded from http://www.divx.com as well http://www.download.com/. I recommend making sure you get the latest version (5.02 i think as of this writing) and also looking for 3.11. The reason for 3.11 is because some of the sound encoding on some of them. Most of the ones where you have no sound is because 3.11 may not be installed.
Then, you have two options: IRC or Newsgroups. IRC can get a bit slow. Because there are not enough Fserves (File Servers), sometimes it’s really hard to get files. Even then you have to wait because there are so many people requesting files. Normally you go to an Fserve and get your request put into a queue. On IRC, I usually go to DALnet, #japan-drama or #abmj. I’d recommend using mIRC (http://www.mirc.com) for IRC. It’s really straightforward and pretty easy to use.
The Newsgroups are your alternative. The newsgroup you want is alt.binaries.multimedia.japanese. Here you’ll find tons of shows. The only problem here (if it’s really a problem) is that each episode is broken up into parts. (This is normal for newsgroups if you have never used them) Anyways, this is a “no wait” solutions, unfortunately, not all doramas will be available. You have to pretty much stay on top of this newsgroup to get shows.
And that’s really all there is to it. If you’re lucky like myself, you can hook up your computer to the TV and voila, you’ve got japanese dorama on tv.
Feel free to ask me anything if you’re having problems. You can also find me IRC in #japan-drama or #abmj under the nick Validus.
