Some things I saw today…

Drove by the new Walgreens to be (still not yet open) and all the signs were lit up. However the H in Pharmacy was out. Thought that rather amusing.

Pulling out of the Schnucks parking lot and seeing this very older gentleman drive up in a vette and came out with a much younger blonde woman. Found that rather amusing. Good for him. :)

People still don’t know how to drive. This one girl tailgated me at least a mile, even though the left lane was wide open. What in the world was she thinking?

Oh, and happy Easter folks. :)

Miyamoto Musashi

Who is Miyamoto Musashi? Probably one of the most famous of Samurai in Japanese History. Perhaps you heard of A Book of Five Rings? That was written by Musashi in the 17th century. Amazingly (or not so amazingly) enough, it is still used today in common business practices.

Miyamoto Musashi was pretty much an orphan. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him and his father abandoned him shortly thereafter. Musashi was a troubled youth. It is said that he won his first “duel” at the age of thirteen, and went on to become undefeated during his career.

Throughout his life, he had made many accomplishments, one of them being the art of fighting with two swords. Now mind you, it’s not as if no one ever fought with two swords before. It was just unorthodox (at least in my opinion). He went on to perfect this technique, and thus was born Niten-ryu.

There are many stories and sub stories about Musashi. I would recommend reading about his life in the book Musashi by Yoshikawa Eiji. This is perhaps one of my favourite books to read. I’ve read the story at least 10 times. I love it everytime I read it. (Granted I do skip through a lot of it now. Hehe)

Enjoy. And let me know what you think if you find anything interesting. We can chat about it. :)

I had a dream last night…

Nothing profound…

I was part of an elite force going through this one town that was taken over by and evil corporate company. We had eliminated important members of said company, and were in the process of getting extracted. Before we could however, we ran into some resistance! We were shooting as monsters, including zombies.

I remember distinctly getting a couple new guns. They were both desert eagles (of course, as if I’d dream of anything else, hehe) and one was silver. I don’t remember what the other one was like. I distinctly remember these because they were “newer” models. When thrown, they would act as a small grenade.

As we went on to the next mission point, we were overcome by a couple dozen “monsters” and we were firing away. Then I woke up.

I think I play too many video games. LOL

Getting ready to start up a new secret project. :) Don’t worry you’ll see this one soon enough. sssh!

The Friday Five

  1. If you could eat dinner with and “get to know” one famous person (living or dead), who would you choose? David Lynch. Still a big fan of his. Love his work. Would LOVE to spend some time and pick his brain.
  2. Has the death of a famous person ever had an effect on you? Who was it and how did you feel? Hmm. Well I can’t really say that any one famous person. MLK for one, President Kennedy. To explain that one would require another entry! ;)
  3. If you could BE a famous person for 24 hours, who would you choose? Well! I’d really love to be John Malkovich for a day. :)
  4. Do people ever tell you that you look like someone famous? Who? No, not really. I could say something really bad, but I won’t. :)
  5. Have you ever met anyone famous? Actually I did meet Emmanuel Lewis. Also a soap opera actor from Days of Our Lives. He’s quite gone from the show now, and I can’t recall his name!

What an interesting story. I think that being to publish what you want in a magazine, newspaper, what have you is all right, I don’t know about this. They *are* teens after all. But hey, it’s a different culture than the US. Although they did suspend the school magazine. For some reason I just don’t have any opinion on this. Anyone care to take a stab at this one?

Earthlink Blocks Port 25…

Excuse me, I MUST turn on GEEK mode here:

So obviously Earthlink blocks port 25 on their dial-up (including DSL, cable etc). What does this mean to everyone? Not much really except for people who are trying to send and receive mail for their domain that is not hosted by Earthlink.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the Earthlink techs were aware of this problem. Either A) They don’t know that port 25 is blocked, or B) They are told not say that they are blocking. I can understand both ways.

I just want to say that I’m not bashing Earthlink Tech folks. I still think that Earthlink has the best tech support, since I was once an Earthlink Tech-guy.

Scenario A is believable. Why? Mainly because the poor techs are not always told everything. Even then, the news could have been spread through the great number of emails that they receive. Easily overlooked.

Scenario B is also believable. Earthlink has always been one to know that you get total unrestricted access. You don’t want to spoil that by saying you are now blocking port 25. It’s really insignificant in my opinion. Blocking port 25 is a common practice. I encourage it for any ISP. Because of the numerous amounts of spam, this is a logical choice.

So, I’m thinking that for the most part, it’s scenario A. Because why wouldn’t you want to tell the customers that you’re blocking port 25 with reasons such as that? The only people who will get furious at this would be the people who are actually spamming. Anything to kill all spammers is a good thing. :)

So if you’re having problems sending mail to someone, and you’re not using your own ISP’s mail servers… It might not be your hosting service. It might very well be your ISP!

Oh, and btw, if you *still* don’t believe that earthlink is blocking port 25 and would like to hear it from them, here you go:

My case is rested. :)

New Baby! New Baby!

Congrats go to my friends Dave and Mary! Kyle John Ross Jeneske was born 3/23/02 at 5:28pm. He weighed in at a whopping 7 lbs, 1 oz. and 21 inches tall. (because I can’t really say long. Just seems wrong.)

Anyways, Congrats to the new parents! I’m still getting over the fact that Dave is a dad. I guess I should go out and find someone and have kids now huh? Uh no. :) Someday.

This -or- That?

Who would win a fight between:

  1. Batman and Superman? Superman although I bet Batman would have some cunning moves. :)
  2. Aquaman and Robin? Robin.
  3. The Wonder Twins and the Ambiguously Gay Duo? The Ambiguously Gay Duo of course!
  4. Spiderman and Spawn? Spiderman. Of course.
  5. Do you Spring Clean or not? I try. But I do not always succeed.
  6. Do you check your email once every hour, more often, or less often? If I’m on the computer, I just turn on outlook express and it checks it all on it’s own every 10 minutes or so. :)
  7. Do you have one or more email accounts? Sigh. I have too many. I don’t even know how many email accounts I have. :)
  8. Stiff as a board or Light as a feather? Stiff as a board.
  9. Float like a butterfly or sting like a bee? Hmm. Float like a butterfly perhaps.
  10. Both feet on the floor or head up in the clouds? Head up in the clouds. No doubt.
